Deja Jones PictureSwing For A Cure Softball Tournament April 19-21, 2013

This is the 4th year for the Swing. In the first 3 years we have raised over $30,000. The money has went to the families of players, a players mom, an umpire, all to help with expenses that they incur battling cancer. And last year we included (and will again this year) the Mary Card Harbaugh Nursing Scholarship at Indiana State University. Mary, a nurse herself, lost her battle with breast cancer in 2011 and her family established the scholarship. In 2012 we raised more than $14,000!

This year one of our recipients is Deja Jones. Deja has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Her cancer is on her brain stem, which makes it inoperable. Deja played the game at a very high level for the Indy Edge and Warren Central HS. One of our organizers spoke with Deja's mother, Kathy Jones on the phone the other day. She said they just celebrated her six months anniversary of being diagnosed. Yes celebrated, because the doctors originally gave Deja only three months. Deja is back in school right now, although with a walker, due to partial paralysis on her right side. She is still fighting cancer tooth & nail. We told her we need her to stay strong as we need her to throw / kick / bounce the first pitch on Saturday April 20. I hope you can join us at this years Swing for a Cure.

Here's how we raise money:
THMSA donates the use of the ballpark for this tournament
100% of registration fees goes to the benefit
100% of the gate fee goes to the benefit (minus throphy cost and minor expenses)
100% of the profit from t-shirt sales goes to the benefit
100% of our silent auction donations goes to the benefit
Donations from face painting goes to the benefit
Most if not all of our umpires donate there fees back to the tournament (this is thousands of dollars).
$275 in donations from our 2012 Gravy Boat Open Home Run Derby goes to the benefit
Approximately $300 from our upcoming Softball Clinic goes to the benefit.
Vendors provide most of there merchandise at or below cost.
