2012 Swing For A Cure

This is going to be a very fun weekend, so be prepared. By playing in this tournament you are helping a player in our softball community who is battling cancer and a ISU scholarship fund.
     
BallPark/katie.jpgKatie Crandol is a 16 year old softball player battling brain cancer. She plays for the Indiana Rebel travel softball team and Adrean H.S. We will use a portion of the money raised to help her family with expenses related to her cancer treatment.
 
  
    
    
BallPark/MaryCardHarbaugh.jpgMary Card Harbaugh, 44, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, following a battle with breast cancer. Mary started a career in nursing at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis as a pediatric oncology nurse, then worked 20 years as a surgical nurse at Union Hospital and the Wabash Valley Surgery Center in Terre Haute.
The family has established the Mary Card Harbaugh Scholarship for Nursing through the Indiana State University Foundation. A portion of the money raised will be donated to this scholarship fund.

Terre Haute Miss Softball America is donating the use of the ball park. 100% of the gate fee money,silent action and 50/50 money goes to the benefit. Nearly all of your registration fee goes to the benefit, all the profit from t-shirt sales goes to the benefit. Most if not all of our umpires will be donating their services for this tournament.

    

   

2012 THMSA Tournament Season

As you put together your 2012 tournament schedule we hope you will consider Terre Haute Miss Softball America and one or more of our many tournaments. We have qualifiers from AFA and USFA, as well as many tournaments present by Terre Haute Miss Softball America.

Our first tournament is the 3rd annual "Swing For A Cure" . This years tournament will benefit Katie Crandol, an Indiana Rebel travel ball team member battling brain cancer. Proceeds from this tournament will go to the Crandol family to help cover expenses.

Other tournaments of note included:

Pay You Back Tournament - Age division champions receive 100% of there registration fee back, 2nd place 50%, 3rd place 33% and 4th place 25%.

Best of the Midwest - Are you the best? Prove it on the field, This is a 4 game guarantee and is only $150

Mothers Day Tournament - Friday night and Saturday only! Spend Mothers Day with Mom. Limited number of teams per age division, 3 game guarantee, only $100.

Fathers Day Tournament - This is a 4 game guarantee and is only $150 ($100 8u)

Team Appreciation FREE Tournament - If your team has played in any tournament at THMSA in 2012 your invited to play for FREE in this tournament. NO registration fee ($25 ball fee required). *Free for any team that played in a 2012 THMSA Tournament

    

    

  

To be a successful softball player you have to keep your skills sharp year around. The Diamond Softball Academy offers hitting and pitching lessons for girls of all ages and skill levels. Also available is “Saturday School”, offering defensive training, conditioning and game strategy.

Pitching Lessons Offered Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 9pm. From beginners to experienced pitchers our instructors will work with pitchers to improve mechanics, speed and develop an arsenal of pitches. Pitching lessons are $15 per hour.

Hitting Lessons – Offered Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 9pm. From beginners to experienced hitters, our instructors will access your strengths and areas of improvement then develop a training strategy to improve overall hitting. Diamond instructors teach hitting techniques used by the University of Tennessee, University of Arizona, and 8 time NCAA National Champion and Olympic Gold Medal winning coach Mike Candrea. Hitting lessons are taught in smaller groups (5 or less) for a more hands on training session. Hitting lessons are $15 per hour.

Saturday School – Offered on Saturday morning “Saturday School” offers hitting, defensive training, fielding techniques, conditioning and game strategy. Excellent for all ages but especially effective for young or inexperienced players. Saturday School is $15 per session.

 14u Indiana Outkast Make Gravy Boat Open History!

The 14u Outkast are the first team to take home 2 GBO trophies in the same year. How did they do it you ask? The first weekend of the GBO the 14u Outkast won the 14u age division by defeating the Valley Fusion. The following weekend playing up in the 16u age division the 14u Outkast take home the 2nd place trophy losing in the "IF" game to the 16u Mohomet Seymore team.

This past weekend the 18u Lady Rex softball team won the Gravy Boat Open tournament at THMSA.The Rex entered the championship game needing 2 wins against unbeaten Fastpitch Mafia.  The Lady Rex won the 1st game 11-6 to force the “if necessary” game.  In the finale, with the Rex trailing the Mafia 1-2 entering the top of the seventh inning and down to their last out, with a runner at 1st base, Mackenzie McGregor belted the game winning 2 run home run as the Rex held on to win the game and the championship 3-2.

Thank you to everyone who participated in The Swing for a Cure. Whether you were a player, coach, parent, umpire or fan each one of you were responsible for the money we raised. Thank you's go out to our trophy and t-shirt vendors, every merchant who donate something to the silent auction, our many volunteers, the Terre Haute South Lady Braves softball players who came out and helped (you are amazing young ladies) and our umpires who donated some or all of there pay for this tournament. A special thank you goes to Brenda Stout who's tireless work made this tournament a huge success. With everyones help we raised  nearly, drum roll please,..... $9,000. 

On behalf of all the board members at Terre Haute Miss Softball America and our many volunteers, thank you for coming out this weekend and Swinging for a Cure!

Terre Haute Miss Softball Americas first ever FREE Softball Clinics were a huge success! 70+ young ladies attended the clinics over two weekends. Hitting, bunting and defensive skills were covered. Additionally, afternoon sessions included instruction for pitchers and catchers. Many of the girls had never played softball before and this was there first experience.
   
Thank you to all the volunteers and instructors that helped. A special thanks to all the Lady Braves softball players that came out and helped, you are an amazing group of young ladies on and off the field. We played AFA, USSSA and proudly hosted the ASA 14u Class B Northern National. We also offered spring ball league, high school summer ball league, and fall ball league.

We look forword to more of the same in 2011 and we hope to see you here.
